A 41-year-old woman was murdered hours before midnight on Wednesday in a Posadas motel and her partner, the assailant, remained in serious condition last night after attempting suicide at the scene of the femicide. The victim was identified as Natalia Castro, who together with Mario Maidana (42), were regular customers of the establishment, according to the manager of the place.
The incident was discovered when there were thirty minutes to go before midnight on Thursday at the establishment located at the intersection of López y Planes and Monseñor de Andrea avenues. Members of the Regional Unit II went to the Deseos motel after a call to 911.
According to the first data that this morning could verify, an employee of the place, known as Diego B, told members of the Misiones Police that a couple, who were regular customers, had entered the temporary hotel on foot at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday , paying in a first instance two hours of accommodation in room number four.
Then, after the hour paid, the subject called the shelter employee again, paying until 11:00 p.m.
In this context, the person in charge of the place, before having completed the paid period, contacted the couple again to find out if they were going to leave the room or extend their stay again.
It was at that moment that he managed to observe blood on the attacker’s hand, without hearing or seeing the woman who had entered with him. Given this alert, the worker requested police presence.
Upon arriving at the complex, the uniformed men knocked on the door of the room where the couple was, without obtaining any answers. Given this, they observed through the window reddish stains scattered on the floor of the room.
Faced with this terrible scenario, a superior officer and the authorities of the Investigating Court Three, in charge of Fernando Verón, were informed. We proceeded to preserve the place and wait for his arrival.
Once the officer arrived at the scene, rigorous work was carried out by the Scientific Police.
Once inside the place, they found both people unconscious in the bathroom. At that moment, the officers present realized that the woman, who was reportedly the wife of the attacker, was already without vital signs, presenting injuries in her neck area.
On the other hand, the subject was unconscious but alive, for which he was first transferred urgently to the Madariaga Hospital.
Hours later, meanwhile, it was decided to transfer the person involved in an ambulance to the René Favaloro hospital. Last night he was hospitalized in an induced coma, sedated and asleep in police custody.
On the other hand, once the expert tasks were completed, the police personnel transferred the woman to the Judicial Morgue to carry out the corresponding autopsy.
According to the first conclusions of the skills performed at the scene, the death of the woman would have been caused by a beer bottle that caused several cuts, which were not deep, so the femicide continued to strangle her.
For the moment, the 42-year-old alleged murderer is expected to improve so that he can be transferred to the Investigating Court to give an investigative statement, or that he is in a position to be charged in the hospital.
Judge Verón awaits the results of the autopsy and the incorporation of the testimonials to advance with the investigation of the case.
The first of the year
This event, which happened in the western area of the provincial capital, is the first femicide of 2023 that occurs in Misiones.
While the previous year, according to the statistics carried out by this morning paper, three crimes of this type were registered in the city of Posadas, being in February the femicide of Estefanía Beatriz Benítez (32), in May the death of the taxi driver Claudia Benítez (35) and in October the crime against Dora Samaniego (79).
The precedent in the Yacyretá neighborhood
A similar act of femicide followed by suicide occurred on October 20, in the Yacyretá neighborhood, when Ricardo Cardozo (69) murdered his wife Dora Samaniego (79), who had celebrated her birthday hours before.
