The operations manager received the written warning on February 20 this year after approving salary payments of approximately SEK 1.2 million to an employee who did not work.

– The operations manager and employees agreed to put out paid leave, This was not sanctioned by the region, says Agneta Ståhl, director of health care at Region Jönköping County, to the news agency Siren.

Described as privilege abuse

In the written warning, the region writes:

“In your employment as business manager, you abused your mandate and trust by improperly and intentionally approving incorrect payments in the payroll system, abuse of authority.”

According to the region, the operations manager resigned from his position in close connection with the payments being discovered. The operations manager was immediately employed in a similar position in another region in Sweden.

Not getting the money back

Region Jönköping County has not received the money back for the incorrect salary payments.

– You cannot demand the money back from the employee, because it is the manager who is responsible for approving payments. We had two opportunities to show that we cannot accept this kind of handling, either by filing a police report or by giving a written warning. We have, after dialogue with our lawyers, chosen to give the operations manager a written warning, says Agneta Ståhl, director of health care, to the news agency Siren.
