The sick former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was able to leave the intensive care unit on Sunday. The Italian newspaper “Corriere della Sera” reported that the 86-year-old was now being treated in a normal ward in the San Raffaele clinic in Milan.

Berlusconi was hospitalized on April 5 after complaining of breathing problems. The doctors found a lung infection and announced leukemia. In the past few days, they had informed about an improvement in their prominent patient’s health.

Berlusconi has struggled with several serious health problems in recent years. The multi-billionaire had heart surgery in 2016, in 2019 for an intestinal obstruction, and in 2021 he spent more than three weeks in the hospital due to the consequences of a corona infection.

Berlusconi has dominated public life in Italy for decades in a variety of roles – not just as a politician, but also as a media mogul and longtime owner of football club AC Milan. Between 1994 and 2011 he was prime minister three times. (AFP)
