The video was recently given as evidence in the Møre og Romsdal district court in Ålesund. The backdrop is a used car purchase that resulted in a crazy speed game with speeds over 160 km/h.

Watch the dramatic video in the window at the top of the story.

The two friends, in their mid and late 20s, had driven from Eastern Norway to Ålesund to pick up a new used car this Saturday in October last year. The car was an Audi A7 with a stated top speed of well over 200 km/h.

Speed game

The temptation to test the new car was obviously too great. So they hit the gas on the trip up Ørskogfjellet where there are two lanes in the east direction. Just under half an hour after the drive started in Ålesund, both the Audi and his friend’s car were observed at very high speed by a civilian UP patrol.

– Oh, hell, is the burst of power from the crew in the UP car when the two cars whiz by on Europaveien.

Because the police car was equipped with both a video camera and audio recording in the passenger compartment.

– Despite the fact that the police car drove at a high speed of more than 150 km/h, yes in fact a speed in excess of 160 km/h was measured, it took time for the patrol to catch up with the two cars, the judgment states.

The patrol got a measurement of 158 km/h on the Audi, while the mate was measured at 143 km/h. Then both have received a solid deduction for the safety margin in the measurement.

– There is no reason to doubt that the speed measurements were carried out in accordance with the current instructions for speed measurement. The police car has also followed normal procedures for checking the speedometer, the district court ruled.

Denied criminal guilt

The video also shows that both drivers make a dangerous overtaking.

– The driving of both defendants entailed a great risk of accident and injury, both to possible oncoming vehicles, and to the driver of a Volvo passenger car, the district court believes.

Both the two defendants, the driver, pleaded not guilty. But the district court found it proven – beyond any reasonable and reasonable doubt – that the comrades were guilty of several breaches of road traffic legislation.

The man behind the wheel of the Audi has been sentenced to unconditional imprisonment for 30 days, and that he must be without a driving license for 25 months. The other defendant has been sentenced to prison for 25 days and 19 months without a driving licence. It is in line with the claim of the prosecutor, police inspector Unni Moen Vikebakk.

– The verdict will not be appealed. The case has had major practical consequences for my clients. One of them has lost his job as a driver as a result of this case, defender Louis Anda tells TV 2.

The decision in Møre and Romsdal district court in Ålesund was unanimous.
