News JVTech Here’s how to be even more discreet when surfing the Internet from your Android smartphone

To share :

The Chrome application on Android has just taken its “Private Browsing” mode to the next level: it is now possible to secure your private tabs biometrically, thanks to your smartphone’s fingerprint sensor.

Private browsing on a smartphone has the main advantage of do not leave a trace once the affected tabs are closed : No one knows what sites you have visited. That being said, normally you are supposed to be the only one who can access your mobile device. However, if you are afraid of prying eyes, this proposal is still useful. Note thatit also exists on touch tablets which can be shared between different people in your household.

Google adds a cool feature to Chrome for Android

In
a blog post published on January 26, Google has announced the arrival of a new feature within Chrome for Android : the possibility of lock your private browsing session when you exit the browser. “You can require biometric authentication when resuming a private browsing session that was interrupted”explains the company.

Already deployed on Chrome for iOS, this proposal was missing from the Android version of the browserwhich is all the same a shame when you know who is the owner of this mobile operating system… Anyway, to activate this feature, you have to go to the Chrome settings then to Privacy and security. Then activate the option “Lock incognito tabs when you close Chrome”and voila.

If you don’t see this option appear yet, your version of Chrome for Android is probably outdated. Google has announced the rollout of this feature, but it may not be available on your smartphone yet. You can still activate it by copying and pasting this command in the address bar of the browser: chrome://flags/#incognito-reauthentication-for-android

A now more useful incognito mode

Once this feature is enabled, you can leave your incognito tabs open when you close Chrome. When you next reopen, you will be asked to unlock the browser using your finger to access it. It is also possible touse a PIN code if you have a device that does not have a fingerprint reader. An obvious gain in discretionwhich has the advantage of avoiding having to systematically close your private tabs after use.

It should be noted that Google did not choose the day on which it chose to start the deployment of this new option. In effect, Thursday January 26 was World Data Privacy Day. A little wink that is important.
