HPD expects early extradition of Hispanic accused in death of baby

HOUSTON – The woman charged in the death of a baby girl found in the bathroom of a southwest Houston gas station is already being held in the Harris County Jail.

Diana Guadalupe Zavala, 25, was extradited in the last few hours from Cameron County, in the Brownsville area, where she was arrested on August 1.

Zavala faces charges of concealment of the body and manipulation of evidence, in the death of the infant that occurred on April 2.

The woman was taken into custody in Brownsville shortly after an arrest warrant was issued for her by the Houston PD.

Zavala López was identified as the person who would have left the baby’s body inside a bathroom at a gas station located at 13114 South Post Oak that day at dawn.

Emergency teams determined that the baby had died several hours before the discovery in the gas station bathroom.

In the event that Zavala decides to apply for parole, she must surrender her passport and restrict her movements to Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Montgomery, Chambers, Liberty and Waller counties.
