Hispanic grandmother accused of abandoning granddaughter at Bush airport

HOUSTON – George Bush Airport was the scene of an incident in which an 8-year-old girl was abandoned without her grandmother after her grandmother boarded a plane bound for Honduras, Houston police said.

The events occurred this Monday when the woman, identified as Euceda Letbia Maldonado, supposedly confused by the lack of adequate information and guidance, boarded the plane without realizing that her granddaughter was still in the terminal. The little girl, whose identity has not been revealed for privacy reasons, was waiting for her grandmother in the departure lounge.

Once she noticed her grandmother’s absence, the girl alerted an airport staff member, who quickly put security protocols in place. The police were immediately notified and took it upon themselves to locate her grandmother and take the necessary steps for her well-being.

Maldonado appeared in court after his arrest, where he posted $200 bond. However, he is due back for arraignment on September 21.
