Sweden’s tabloid newspapers are currently dominating one topic: If the forecast, which historian Herman Lindqvist paints in somber colors, is correct, the crown is on the verge of collapse. Why Crown Princess Victoria’s former tutor predicts Estelle will be the last queen in line.
Stockholm – Most recently, King Carl XVI ruled. Gustaf (76) made the headlines when he publicly questioned the 40-year-old changes to the law of succession. When his son Carl Philip (43) was born on May 13, 1979, he was the rightful Crown Prince of Sweden, but his older sister Victoria (45) was retrospectively named heir to the throne. The monarch called the decision wrong and had to backtrack in a statement. He wanted to make it clear that he was not criticizing Victoria (45): “The Crown Princess is my successor. (…) I am proud of her and her tireless commitment to Sweden.”
Crown Princess Victoria’s daughter Estelle is likely to be Sweden’s last queen
Even if the Swedish king just got the curve, the future prospects of the house of Bernadotte look anything but rosy. Historian Herman Lindqvist (79), who was once his eldest daughter’s private tutor, prophesied in Aftonbladet recently the imminent end of the Swedish monarchy. He suspects that Victoria’s daughter Estelle may be Sweden’s last queen.
On the front page of the biggest tabloid he laments the increasing “dilution” of the royal DNA. Already King Carl XVI. Gustaf married Silvia Sommerlath (79) a commoner. The three royal children Victoria, Carl Philip (43) and Madeleine (40) followed his example and also did not marry in aristocratic circles. In the 20th century it was unthinkable to limit the mini-royals to other European aristocratic houses when choosing a partner. Especially since other royal families have long preferred to tie the knot with civil spouses.

Historian Lindqvist sees a growing desire for a republic in Sweden
So the blue blood dwindles, leading Lindqvist to believe that the monarchy may soon no longer have a right to exist in Sweden. “There will be referendums and investigations and then the decision will be made in favor of the republic,” predicts the historian, who sees the end of the royal family with Queen Estelle’s reign. Crown Princess Victoria will take over after Carl Gustaf and pass it on to her daughter. Then it’s over.
“As a father, I thought it was terrible,” Carl Gustaf lamented about his son’s fate of not becoming king. The headwind among his people slapped him icy in the face. Other royal news from Sweden also makes you sit up and take notice: Madeleine’s allowance was canceled last year due to her marriage and the relocation of her life to the home of her husband Christopher O’Neill (47). When it came to rumors of a marriage crisis between Victoria and husband Daniel, it was only an official statement from the dream couple that silenced the reports. Sources used: Aftonbladet, news.de
