During the meeting, which marks the end of Argentina’s pro-tempore presidency of the regional bloc, Fernández urged the representatives to “face a process that leads us towards equality and social justice.”
Likewise, he warned about “the ultra-right that has stood up and is threatening each one of the peoples, and we must not allow that recalcitrant and fascist right to put our peoples at risk.”
At the beginning of his speech, the Argentine president asked those present to applaud Brazil, which returns to Celac by decision of the president of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and after his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro, decided to exclude the most populous country Latin American Community.
In addition, the Argentine president called to “defend democracy and institutions” and stated that “now we are with a complete Celac, with Brazil, and the opportunity to unite the region is an imperative that is imposed on us and we have to achieve it.” When reviewing the management of Argentina during the year in which he held the pro-tempore presidency of Celac, Alberto Fernández said that “we feel that we have taken the voice of Latin America to all corners of the world.”
In this sense, the head of state said that Argentina brought to international forums the different problems of the region, among which he cited the problem that climate change implies for the Caribbean region.

Likewise, he affirmed that another of the efforts carried out during the pro-tempore presidency had to do with the promotion of “dialogue in Venezuela, trying to make democratic coexistence a reality.”
The Argentine president also recalled that during his participation in the Summit of the Americas he brought “the demand for the end of the blockades that Latin American countries still suffer.” “They are very perverse methods of sanctioning the people. Cuba has been under a blockade for six decades and it is unforgivable, Venezuela has the same.
We have to make integration a reality, we have to make integration actions that allow us to move forward and progress”, remarked Fernández, after which he declared the deliberations of this VII Summit to have begun.
