On May 5, 2023, Hogwarts Legacy was also released for the last-gen consoles – Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Avalanche Software couldn’t just conjure up the port with swagger and wags. Nevertheless, a very specific trick helped the developers.
The Changing Castle
Gamers don’t have to make many compromises in addition to the often lower frame rate with the last-gen version. The title runs smoothly, so the move was worth it from a technical point of view. In order for the title to run so smoothly on the older devices, Avalanche Software has rebuilt the Hogwarts School of Magic.
On social media, some players have noticed differences between the castle on PS5 and the school on PS4. These structural changes are primarily intended to ensure that there are less detailed and open environments that need to be rendered.

A free-swinging wooden bridge was replaced with a closed corridor, instead of a complex corridor system there is sometimes only one door. A simple but extremely effective trick that relieves the hardware of the last-gen consoles when rendering the graphics. Even if that wasn’t the only trick to adapting the game to the last gen.
