Julianne Moore (62) is something that Hollywood probably calls a late bloomer. She got engagements at the theater and in TV series right after graduating from university. The actress only had her big break at the age of 36 in the film “Boogie Nights”.

Since then, she has been one of the most popular stars in Hollywood, collecting awards and winning an Oscar in 2015 for her leading role in “Still Alice – My Life Without Yesterday”.

She is now 62 and very busy. She doesn’t believe the myth that women no longer get roles after a certain age. “Especially nowadays there are roles for every age,” says Julianne Moore to BILD am SONNTAG.

“The great thing about life is that as you get older you gain more experience – and hopefully learn something from it. With that, you’re able to play much deeper roles.” As a young actress, she always believed that she didn’t have to do any research for her roles.

“Today that sounds completely absurd. When you’re 20 you think you know and can do everything better – but now I know that’s not true. I can hardly save myself from work to this day – and I love it! I am so inquisitive and want to learn everything. I hope this is also reflected in my work!”

Even after about 40 years in acting, there isn’t a day when she wakes up in the morning and thinks: Oh man, I’m still doing this. “I’m rather proud that I’m still doing what I did in school and loved so much. Now to see that this career and this life came out of it is great.”

is current Julianne Moore in Sharper (Apple TV+), a comedy thriller about romance, jealousy and, most importantly, trust. The actress is quite open about it. “I actually always try to trust a stranger right away,” she says. “It’s in our nature to want to believe people. That natural instinct can be something beautiful.”

But it can also get ugly, as the Hollywood star experienced in New York.

“I fell for a very well-known trick on the subway. It happened to me at the Union Square station. Someone came up to me and said, ‘Hi! I live in Westchester and I just got mugged. I only need $20 to buy a ticket home. I need to go here from the subway to the main station and only need 20 dollars.’”

And because Julianne Moore trusts people for the time being, she slipped the man $20. “A month later I was back in the subway station and the same guy came up to me and tried to tell me that he had just been robbed. That’s when I realized that I had fallen for a scam.”

It’s a terrible trick that unfortunately works far too often. “I just didn’t know that at the time!” The actress is disappointed that the predicament is being exploited by other people. “It still makes me sad when I think about it.”
