Heavy rain, hail and strong gusts of wind caused many fire brigade operations in Ratingen on Sunday. Numerous streets were flooded and basements filled up. According to the fire department, the city center and the West and Tiefenbroich districts were particularly affected.

An extraordinary call for help came from a riding stable in Breitscheid. There, after the heavy rain, a horse sank with its right hind leg in the washed-out Edreich and was no longer able to free itself on its own.

The frightened horse was given a sedative by a veterinarian. A special harness with a pull-through needle was then pulled under the animal, according to the fire brigade. A wheel loader was then used to lift the animal and free it from the ground. (red)
