The comments and notes left on Google My Business play an important role in a company’s digital presence, however, dishonest publications can negatively affect the credibility of the business. The good news is that there are ways to deal with reviews like this and get them removed from Google.
When can I remove a review?
The content of reviews posted by customers on Google My Business cannot be managed by other people, even if they own the business. That is, the platform does not allow you to remove a comment instantly, as on Instagram.
This is done to guarantee the autonomy and impartiality of the publications left on the pages. The platform encourages a neutral and trustworthy environment for people to feel free to leave their opinions about their experience with a company.
In order to make the process safe, Google has an automatic system that detects inappropriate content and outside the platform usage guidelines, such as spam and false versions. In addition, the rules do not allow topics such as:
- Harassment;
- Hate speech;
- Offensive content;
- Personal information;
- Misleading Content;
- Obscene content;
- Comment unrelated to the topic;
- Advertising content.
However, if you believe that a review about your business is false or dishonest, you can ask for the content to be removed.
Before you begin, it’s important that your request meets the following conditions:
- Only reviews that do not comply with Google’s policies can be reported;
- It’s not recommended to report a post just because you disagree with it;
- Google does not act as an intermediary for discussions between companies and customers;
- It is not possible to report or remove hotel reviews;
- To report hotel reviews that come from third-party websites, go to the third-party provider’s website and request removal. As soon as it is modified in the source, the update will show in Google My Business.
How to request removal of Google My Business reviews

- Click “Report Review”.
