It’s the end of abundance at Netflix too. The SVOD giant has decided to put a definitive end to free account sharing (when a single person pays for a whole group). This laxity makes him lose too much money, while the market has become hyper-competitive, with Disney +, Apple, Prime Video as well as all local platforms, such as Canal + in France.
People who are currently squatting on an account that doesn’t belong to them will therefore soon have to stand on their own feet — that is, pay for their own subscription, with a dedicated account. In principle, the new Netflix policy must be deployed by the end of the first quarter of 2023, in other words no later than March 31.
For Internet users in this situation, three options are possible: cancel the account of your contact, because your presence will in the future lead to an additional cost to the subscription that you are squatting. You can also create a paid “sub-account”, which will cost a few euros more (it is then up to you to arrange with your contact). Or, you can migrate your profile.
Netflix has provided an option in which you — as a free rider — would like to migrate your profile from the account you use for free, to yours, which you are going to open. This allows you to recover your history, whether it is reading recommendations, videos viewed, settings and so on.
Transfer your Netflix profile to another account
The profile transfer option is accessible from the drop-down menu linked to your space, when you click on your avatar at the top right of the screen (as shown in the screenshot below). Just scroll down to the line labeled “Transfer Profile”. Just make sure you are on the one you want to migrate.
A new page will then appear, where Netflix will reassure you about what will happen: all your activity previously recorded on the account you borrowed will be kept on the new one you will create. Then the rest is finally to register on the platform, following the procedure for a new subscription.
You will therefore have to enter an e-mail address, a password (which of course will have to be confirmed), but also your payment details. Once the account has been created and the data has been sent to your new space, Netflix will notify the original account holder to let them know that the transfer is complete. He can then decide to close the old profile or change his password.
