Hunger Games |  With prequel, franchise surpasses US$3 billion in box office

The Hunger Games is becoming one of the most profitable franchises in cinema history, thanks to its new release with The Song of Birds and Serpents.

The prequel film stars Rachel Zegler and Tom Blytharrived in theaters last November 15th, and in less than a week, it has already reached US$ 100 million in revenue around the world.

Joining the previous films in the saga that totaled an amount equivalent to US$ 2.9 billion, with the unreleased feature film, the franchise based on the works of Suzanne Collinsj add up to a total box office of US$3 billionaccording to data from the Collider.

Criticism for the prequel title was mixed among the specialized media, although among the general public, the adaptation became a great reinterpretation of the book with the same title.

The plot of the new feature film takes place 64 years before the events of the main franchise, and features a young Coriolanus Snow as the protagonist, where he sees a chance for change when chosen to be a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from the impoverished District 12.

Francis Lawrencewho worked on four films starring Jennifer Lawrence, will return to direct.

The script is the responsibility of Suzanne Collinscreator of the franchise, Michael Arndt (Oscar winner for A Pequena Miss Sunshine) e Michael Lesslie (Assassins Creed).
