Hurricane 'Hilary' gains strength in the Pacific and reaches category 4

MADRID, 18 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Hurricane ‘Hilary’ has reached category four this Friday morning, with maximum sustained winds of around 220 kilometers per hour, while threatening to wreak havoc from the Pacific Ocean on the coast of Mexico, where alerts have already been activated.

The National Hurricane Center (CNH) of the United States has located the eye of the hurricane at 685 kilometers from Cabo San Lucas, in Mexico. Although experts expect it to continue to gain strength in the coming hours, in principle on Saturday it should begin to weaken, before beginning to affect land with rain and wind already on Sunday.

The National Civil Protection Coordination fears very strong to intense rains in the states of Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco and Nayarit, with winds that in some areas can reach 70 kilometers per hour and waves of up to six meters. The US authorities have also warned of a possible storm in southern California.
