The hurricane season 2023 is getting closer and in the midst of preparations for the arrival of these meteorological phenomena in Mexico, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has already released the list of names that the tropical cyclones this year.

The lists of hurricane names or tropical storms includes 21 letters of the alphabet, excluding the letters Q, U, X, Y, and Z. Currently, six lists are used on a rotating basis and to establish the names of the hurricanes in 2023 the same list was used as in 2017.

As we previously disclosed in The Truth Newsthe 2023 hurricane season will officially begin on May 15 in the Pacific Ocean and on June 1 in the Atlantic.

How many cyclones are expected in the 2023 hurricane season?

Hurricane season will begin on May 15, 2023.

According to experts from the Colorado State University (CSU), for this 2023 it is expected 13 named stormsas well as about six cyclones and two large category 3 hurricanes or higher in the Atlantic.

The World Meteorological Organization is in charge of maintaining rotating lists with established names for each area where tropical cyclones form. Starting in 2021, additional name rosters are used in case the season is very active.
