The season 3 finale of I promise you is marked by a new leap into the future in 2040 and the birth of Paul, the premature baby of Maud (Marilou Berry) and Tanguy (Marc Riso). In the maternity ward, the two watch over the tiny infant who is in an incubator. Aline Panel, the creator and producer of the TF1 series, revealed to us if this baby that we see on the screen was a real or a fake baby.

I promise you (TF1): is Maud and Tanguy’s son played by a real baby?

“It’s a lot of fun. It’s a fake baby and it’s animated with remote controls”, revealed to us Aline Panel who had explained why the production had already made this choice during season 1 with the birth of the triplets. In a making of published on the TF1 websiteAline Panel explained this trade secret: “The difficulty in France and in many countries is shooting with babies. The law does not allow shooting with babies under three months old. We had planned to shoot in Belgium where it is allowed. We had to to cancel this shooting date which was a few days before the country was confined. It did not seem reasonable to us to confront actors and babies who had just been born”.

I promise you : an “animatronic” instead of the baby

Aline Panel continues: “We worked in different ways. We bought from the Americans pictures of the real babies of This is us. I don’t know the law there. They really look like newborns! We worked with fake babies, animatronics. These are robots that can be controlled remotely. There was only one on the market so we had it repainted overnight. With the remote control, they move their arms a little without us having to manipulate them. They also have nylon threads to make them move. We also used “Reborn Babies”, very realistic dolls, made of latex and with a certain weight, so that when we take them in our arms, their heads move. Finally, we worked with pushchairs to make it look like there was a baby inside. There is also a lot of sound work with tears”.
