Mexico City.- The iconic white tailored suit that John Travolta used for the Saturday Night Fever movie posters was auctioned for $260,000 (equivalent to 4,680,000 Mexican pesos).

The suit made up of three pieces, characterized by flared pants, was used by the actor in the seventies tape for the promotionals where the character appears imposing his steps on the dance floor.

The outfit was part of the posters for the film directed by John Badham, including the cover of the soundtrack LP with songs by the Bee Gees.

There are only two sets that were used by Travolta during production, one of which was auctioned off this weekend, according to reports by the Daily Mail.

The auction house Julien’s Auctions was in charge of selling the outfit, which they had estimated at a value of 150 thousand dollars, however, it ended up selling for a larger amount.

“It is one of only two known to have been used during production. It has never been displayed or sold at auction before.

“It has become emblematic not only of the film, but of the entire disco era,” a spokesperson for the auction house told the Daily Mail.

The mythical suit is made of 100 percent polyester fabric, it has a jacket, vest, and pants, which conveyed part of the fashion of the time with their single-breasted details and flared pants.

In the film Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta played Tony Manero, a rebellious 19-year-old facing a difficult life, who is transformed every Saturday night through his dances at the Odyssey 2001 nightclub. The film marked the era of disco music, since it created a sociocultural phenomenon from this musical genre.
