"I'm staying here in Texas"

Elieser Estrada Rodriguez, a Cuban resident in Texas, responded to comments left on TikTok that said “Texas is Cuba” and “Miami is Miami.” Two messages that have led him to compare the differences between living in the two places.

On her TikTok profile, @eliesersagitar He begins the video by saying: “I don’t know what the people who comment have in their heads. I’m not going to promote the state of Texas, but I’m going to show you with two videos The difference between Texas and Miami and whether Texas really resembles Cuba”. He then shows two videos that went viral. The first one was filmed at a driver’s license office in Miami where there was a conflict with one of the people who waited in line.

“I’ve been to the driver’s license office several times and I’ve never seen anything like that. Maybe they don’t speak to you in Spanish and they’re serious, but I’ve never seen such treatment. That rudeness, for me to see that is shocking.”said the Cuban, who then commented on another video of a confrontation in a supermarket.

“I have never seen that kind of exchange in all the stores. That bad attitude, that vulgarity. Is that why I want Miami? And you see that in Miami constantly. Being in Miami is like being in Cuba.”he sentenced.

“I know Miami isn’t Florida, but I’m staying here in Texas”he concludes.

In response to these statements, many Cubans have shared their experiences in the comments.

“Until they leave Miami they will not understand anything you say,” “I have lived in Texas for years and I would not change it for any other state. Miami is only for visiting,” “I lived 11 years in Miami, I’m now 10 years old in Texas and I regret not having come here sooner”“Likewise, I have never seen that kind of gossip here in Texas and I fear that it will become like that because of the number of Cubans that are arriving” or “You are absolutely right, I love Texas.”
