Apple is working on a new 24-inch iMac, but it won’t arrive before the end of the year at the earliest. Instead of integrating an M2 chip, it should be powered directly by the future M3 chip which has not yet been announced. We take stock of what we know.

The iMac currently marketed by Apple is 24 inches. It works thanks to its Apple M1 chip consisting of an 8-core CPU and an 8-core GPU. Two years after its launch, we are now wondering when its successor will be released. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has just revealed some crisp information about him. According to him, the next iMac should skip the M2 chip step. The manufacturer would rather plan to refine its M3 chip to integrate it directly into its future computer.

When will the next 24-inch iMac be released?

“I haven’t seen anything to indicate that there will be a new iMac before the M3 chip generation, which won’t arrive until the end of this year at the earliest or next year”, underlines the journalist in his newsletter. Apple’s M3 chip is expected to be etched at 3nm and deliver increased performance while optimizing power efficiency. For comparison, the M2 chip is engraved in 5 nm.

We should also find the M3 chip in the bowels of the next MacBook Air, which is expected to be launched in the second half of 2023. It could also be found in future versions of the 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini.
