The pre-candidate for president of Juntos por el Cambio and head of the UCR national committee, Gerardo Morales, made a tour of our city yesterday to carry out a campaign tour of the shopping centers and local institutions. He did it with strong criticism of the government for the economic crisis, to which he claimed “responsibility and dialogue.” He also spoke of the inmate in the opposition alliance, expressed his party affinity with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, and highlighted the incorporation of José Luis Espert into the coalition.

During a visit to the newsroom of EL DIA, Morales referred to the economic crisis that the country is going through and warned that, although the drought was an important factor in the lack of foreign currency, the situation is the product “of the lack of plan of the government and the lack of internal dialogue”. And he exemplified: “Only in energy and in public companies the deficit increased by 13,000 million dollars”, as one of the reasons for the lack of reserves in the Central Bank.

“The issue is aggravated by the political problem of the Frente de Todos,” he warned. “Here they do acts to attack and talk to each other,” she said, referring to the call given yesterday by the vice president, Cristina Kirchner, at the Teatro Argentino. “He has to meet with the president (Alberto Fernández) and the Minister of Economy (Sergio Massa) and talk.”

“We demand that they have the responsibility to come together, to dialogue and to think together, because Cristina cannot give a message as if she were outside the government when she is part of it. She is the one who structured this government.”

In this line, the governor of Jujuy defined: “From Together for Change we have the right to demand dialogue and responsibility.” And he argued: “We have done it. When we accompany the government’s difficult decisions: when it was the renegotiation with the IMF, we accompanied at a time when Máximo Kirchner resigned from the presidency of the bloc and the Cámpora opposed it. We also voted on the Budget laws… On central issues it cannot be said that we have not had the attitude of accompanying important situations for the country”.

He expressed his opinion in this way about the declarations of the national government that saddled the opposition with the cause of the run on the dollar last Tuesday. “Putting the blame on us is a sign that their argument is running out. They have to be self-critical and put their feet on the ground, ”he added.

“STAND IN THE CENTER”

Asked about the internship of radicalism, where the national deputy Facundo Manes is also running as a presidential candidate, Morales said he maintains “a very good relationship” with the neuroscientist.

“I already proposed an alternative at the end of the year, in December, I have even done it again in the first months of this year, that we launch an open internship so that radicalism, if it seems to me that radicalism has to unify its candidacy Because it is not the same radicalism as in 2015, we have a radicalism that has the most competitive candidates in 70 percent of the national territory,” he analyzed. And he added: “I hope we can reach a consensus sooner.”

“They have to be self-critical and put their feet on the ground. We demand responsibility and dialogue from them”

Regarding the opposition coalition that he is part of, Morales said that “it is the only one in a position to govern Argentina,” but he also warned that his administration “will require dialogue with the rational sectors that claim they are predisposed.” And he stressed that “there are some who want to continue pulling and deepening the crack in general, there are extreme thoughts from all parties, from all political forces.”

Along these lines, he marked a position within the Juntos inmate and stated that “from radicalism we subscribe to the fact that the coalition stands more in the center, with a vocation for dialogue.” And, although he underlined a conciliatory tone of dialogue “with all sectors, he defined: “Through there we have more harmony on how to stop the coalition with the republican Peronism led by Pichetto, with the Civic Coalition and the sector of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta”.

He highlighted the identification of the “most” of radicalism with the line of the Buenos Aires head of government, more centrist than Bullrich’s.

RADICALISM IN THE PROVINCE

Before giving a press conference in a bar in the Calle 12 shopping center and meeting with representatives of the College of Physicians to talk about the situation of the Institute of Medical Assistance Work (IOMA), Morales gave his opinion on the role of radicalism in the province from Buenos Aires. He affirmed that the Buenos Aires party “is strong”, and highlighted the leadership of the national deputy Martín Tetaz, the mayor of San Isidro, Gustavo Posse, and the head of the Provincial Committee, the provincial deputy Maximiliano Abad.

“The party is much more consolidated to contribute to Juntos and win the provincial election,” he said. And he anticipated that, whoever wins, the next national government “must accompany the Province in many structural situations”, referring to the historical deficit of this district and the bid for funds from the suburbs.

“I, as a candidate for president, and eventually a future president, am aware of this, that this Province cannot be left to its fate, but rather that the national government must work together with the future governor.”
