In memory of a Bay of Pigs hero

Dear friends and comrades in struggle:

The sad news of the death of our friend and fellow fighter Raúl Masvidal Jury was not a surprise. Several months ago, during a breakfast among good friends, Raúl let us know that, on his last visit to his doctor, he predicted that he had about 4 to 6 months to live. He spoke to us with the sanity and tranquility of spirit that always distinguished him and with the testament of his firm optimism, which he reminded us that he had lived and enjoyed his life to the fullest.

Raúl had the ability to find the good side of any situation and give hope and inspiration to those around him with his infectious poise and radiant personality. He loved Cuba, his family and was a true friend to his friends. A brave man with solid convictions that prompted him to join Brigade 2506 as a member of Operation 40, whose mission was political and military intelligence during the Bay of Pigs Invasion. He stood out as a businessman and with his fortune he was able to help many people and in charitable works. One of his most generous acts as a Brigade member was donating the Brigade House, which for many years has been the meeting point for our brothers and the Brigade 2506 Museum.

Raul will be deeply missed and his legacy of eternal optimism and generosity will always be present to those of us who had the privilege of knowing him.
