In pictures: with CPR a police officer saves the life of a driver on a Florida highway

A Volusia County Sheriff’s Office officer will be honored after saving the life of a man who was driving a truck on I-95 and was knocked unconscious last Wednesday, according to authorities.

Officers said Sgt. Brian Walsh was driving south on Interstate 95 near Oak Hill when a dump truck veered off the road and hit a guardrail.

When Sergeant Walsh approached the vehicle, he found the driver slumped over the wheel, according to the news release. The sergeant immediately removed the driver and performed CPR until paramedics arrived on scene, according to deputies.

Police officials also said the driver was taken to a local area hospital and is expected to recover.

According to the statement, Sergeant Walsh will be honored with a salvage award for his bravery and swift actions.
