“We cannot understand how you can take horses, because they are like family to us,” said Mariel Cascata, the owner of Milagro, one of two horses allegedly stolen this weekend from a stable in Southwest Ranches, in Broward County.
“Milagro’s mother is our mare and my son’s mare. And it’s been really an experience having a baby, that’s why she’s called Milagro. We came from Argentina and for this to happen to us, we really can’t understand it”, Cascata wonders.
Both miraculous – nine months old – and Venus – 2 years old – remained on private property, where they rescue, care for and train horses.
Pablo Gamboa, owner of the farm, says that the theft “disrupted a wooden fence where the horses were. A door that we have, they raised it to move it and be able to get the foals out ”.
The alleged thieves would have taken advantage of the fact that a storm left the farm without electricity for several minutes, early Saturday morning.
“I feel like a part of my family,” mourns Matias Cascata, owner of the stolen horse, who all he wants is “for her to come back and see her again.”
We bathe them. People are aware of them. He gives them love, carrots. It’s like losing a family member,” reveals Gamboa, the farm’s owner.
The Animal Recovery Mission, a non-profit organization against animal cruelty, is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of animals. They are concerned that both foals have been slaughtered for human consumption on the black market.
The illegal killing of horses is a third degree felony in Florida. The sentence could be up to a year in prison and a $3,500 fine.
“Please think that there is a whole very sad family. What we want is for Milagro to come home and the other filly as well”, is what the owners of the animals ask for.
