So since Michael Caine’s character Stephens Miles ends up with Cobb and his kids, it’s clear that Cobb is really back home with his family. So his totem, a small spinning top, falls, even if the camera no longer shows it.
This finally answers the question that one could chalk up negatively to the film. The otherwise highly exciting and visually stunning blockbuster left some viewers with a bitter aftertaste because of the end.
