Estates General of Justice: last change of course before the iceberg

This roadmap, detailed by the Minister during a press conference, is inspired by the some 50,000 consultations carried out within the framework of these Estates General launched by the executive at the end of 2021 and the summary report, alarmist, submitted to the head of state in July. Here are his main announcements.

  • Increase in the justice budget

Eric Dupond-Moretti undertakes to increase the Justice budget from 9.6 to 11 billion euros in 2027. Over five years, this commitment represents an additional envelope of 7.5 billion euros, which will notably finance the already announced hiring of 10,000 justice officials, including 1,500 magistrates, and the construction of 15,000 prison places. This budgetary effort far exceeds those granted under the five-year terms of Nicolas Sarkozy (+2 billion) and François Hollande (+2.1 billion).

“Thus, at the end of the two five-year terms, the Justice budget will have increased by almost 60%”welcomed the Minister.

  • Creating an app

The second axis of measures aims to “bringing litigants closer to justice” : Eric Dupond-Moretti has announced the forthcoming launch of a ministry smartphone application, starting in April. This application must, for example, make it possible to simulate a request for alimony, to understand legal aid or even to geolocate to find a lawyer or notary.
