After more than 70 years, China was surpassed in the list of most populous countries in the world, since according to the HIM, India overcame after reaching 1,425 million inhabitants.
Likewise, it was made clear that this is an estimate because India suspended the census it was supposed to carry out in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemicTherefore, the last data provided was in 2012.
This downward trend that the Chinese population has been experiencing has to do with the strict family planning policies that have been implemented for decades. So, the current population of 1,411 million that left them in the second step, by 2050 it would drop to 1,317 million. Quite the opposite would occur in Indian territory, where everything indicates that in the future the number of inhabitants would reach 1,688 million.
In any case, they are still extremely high numbers, since both countries together represent more than a third of the 8,000 million people in the world.
Meanwhile, the table is completed by the United States, with 340 million inhabitants; Indonesian (278); Pakistan (240); Nigerian (224); Brazil (216); Bangladeshi (173); Russia (144) and Mexico (128).
