SAN ANTONIO – Khaleesi, a white pooch, may have died after getting caught on a fence while ants bit her, but Aria, her canine friend, became her hero.

What started out as a fun walk for the two dogs through Old Spanish Trails Park turned into anything but, according to San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS).

Khaleesi is a mixed-color fur dog with black markings around her eyes. Aria is a black-haired dog with a white stripe from her chest to her head and large antenna-like ears.

Their adventures took them under a security fence, where Khaleesi’s head got stuck. Desperate, she tried to break free of it, but the ends of the fence began to dig into her neck.

What did Aria do? She ran outside for help. She ran more than 100 meters to the first person she found and barked as loud as she could to get her attention and led her to where her friend was.

According to the ACS account, Khaleesi appeared to lose consciousness from the pressure of the fence on her neck. Added to this was the uncomfortable sensation caused by ant bites.

The person who saw this situation asked the local authorities for help and, after two hours of cutting down the fence, Khaleesi was released.

Both dogs are now in the care of ACS while they find a family willing to adopt them.
