As parents we all want our children to get ahead and go beyond what we achieve. The only obstacle is that our children’s studies can sometimes cause a problem financially, especially if they want to study law.

That’s why a Houston nonprofit is looking to take that burden off some families this summer.

A local Communities In Schools (CIS) program is helping prepare students to be lawyers. For students planning to study law, this is an expense that can often be difficult to afford, but the CIS offers a scholarship to help achieve the dream of studying law.

CIS is a local non-profit organization, and each year they look for ways to alleviate that expense for families participating in the program.

“This gives them a summer opportunity of a few months they are paid and they can experience what a law firm is like here in Houston,” said Ana Troya, CIS alliances manager.

The program is about summer internships that those who are about to leave high school can opt for, if what they are looking for is to go down the path of law.

“This internship is for students who are currently in their senior year or are going to be in their senior year,” Troya said.

This summer, along with the Texas Bar Foundation and a donation of more than $10,000, students in our area will be able to gain experience in different law firms and get one step closer to that academic dream.

“I always knew that I wanted to be a lawyer so I always looked for opportunities like this,” said Kimberly Villalta, a scholarship student.
