SOS Children’s Villages worldwide

Munich/Bochum (ots)

GLS Investments and SOS Children’s Villages worldwide have set up a fund that contributes to strengthening children’s rights – the Children’s Perspective Fund. This offers investors who want to invest in a child-friendly future a whole new opportunity.

The mixed fund invests in companies, countries and projects that recognize, promote and closely monitor children’s rights.

With this fund, GLS Investments and SOS Children’s Villages are setting new standards worldwide in the development of investment offerings with a focus on social criteria. “For a generation-fair transformation of our economy, it takes united forces. We are very pleased that, together with the SOS Children’s Villages worldwide and their expertise in the field of children’s rights, we were able to create an offer that focuses on the well-being of children and young people and thus meets the high demands of our investors,” says Karsten Kührlings, Managing Director of GLS Investments.

The children’s aid organization had had the idea of developing an investment fund with a focus on children for some time. In a selection process at the end of 2020, SOS Children’s Villages worldwide chose GLS Investments, a subsidiary of GLS Bank, as the fund’s investment advisor, primarily because of their high sustainability standards. SOS Children’s Villages around the world advise GLS Investments on socio-ecological research with a special focus on children’s and human rights. Each investment goes through a multi-stage selection process to ensure compliance with the criteria defined in advance. The basis is the GLS investment universe. Only titles are listed there that already comply with strict socio-ecological investment criteria. For the children’s perspective fund, all checked titles then go through a further test step specifically geared towards children’s rights. Only titles that clear this hurdle can be found in the Children’s Perspectives Fund.

The SOS Children’s Villages worldwide contribute their expertise in the field of children’s rights to the so-called Engagement Council. This interdisciplinary committee regularly evaluates the sustainable and child-focused orientation of the fund’s investment universe. “Representatives of civil society predominate in the Engagement Council. This is unique in this form. We will boost communication between advocacy, the capital market and investors. Society must be made aware of the importance of children’s and youth rights. Intergenerational justice is a core component of a sustainable and circular economy that our planet and the people who live on it so desperately need. It’s time we actually invest in what strengthens societies around the world: children and young people,” says Lanna Idriss, director of SOS Children’s Villages worldwide.

GLS investments

As a 100 percent subsidiary of GLS Bank, GLS Investment Management GmbH, or GLS Investments for short, develops sustainable fund concepts and manages them from a social and ecological point of view. It is one of the strictest players on the market and is responsible for the GLS investment universe, which is based on a multi-stage, integrated socio-ecological selection process. A team of financial specialists then examines and evaluates the economic sustainability of the company. The investment funds managed by GLS Investments currently invest around 1.5 billion euros in companies and countries that have a positive social impact and promote sustainable development (as of December 2022).
