On September 18th the time has come: Apple releases iOS 17 for iPhone XS and newer. As always, there are a wealth of new features – but not all announced functions will be available immediately. For some you will have to be patient.

»Collaborative Apple Music Playlists«

With this feature you can share your Apple Music playlist with friends who can edit it. Playlist participants can react to songs with emojis, change the order, and add new songs.

Journal app

The new journal app is intended to help people reflect on experiences and improve their own well-being. What’s special about the app is its use of machine learning, which makes suggestions for diary entries based on your own activities.

AirDrop over the Internet

If you send files via AirDrop, the transfer will continue over the internet connection if you leave AirDrop’s range. To do this, the recipient and sender must be logged in to iCloud.

New features for the Messages app

  • A catch-up arrow for group chats that jumps to the first unread message in the chat
  • Respond to messages with any stickers you like
  • More Messages app settings sync via iCloud

Other functions

  • Pause and play podcasts and Apple News Plus content in the Apple News widget.
  • Intelligent form recognition and improved autofill for PDF files.
  • Automatic Apple ID login when setting up an Apple device if there is a trusted iPhone or iPad nearby and logged in with your Apple ID.
  • Audio Focus feature for Apple Fitness+: This highlights either the volume of the music or the voice of the trainers.

It is very likely that the features listed will be part of iOS 17.1 or iOS 17.2.

If we assume the releases of the previous iOS versions, iOS 17.1 should appear next month, while iOS 17.2 will not be available until December.

Which upcoming iOS 17 feature are you most excited about? And do you have a specific wish for the future? Write it to us in the comments!
