While waiting for an official announcement of iOS 17, a graphic designer has developed a concept imagining the interface of the update. We discover three major new features, including a new version of Siri boosted by the artificial intelligence of ChatGPT.

Several months before the deployment of the first beta version, Parker Ortolani, a graphic designer who works in particular for The Vergereleased a new concept imagining what iOS 17 could look like.

The creator has imagined new improvements for the lock screen, which has already evolved considerably with iOS 16. The concept evokes the addition new fontswhich will be added to the eight already available.

There is also a system that allows you to easily share lock screen with loved ones, through a link or an instant messaging application. The option is reminiscent of the dial sharing offered by WatchOS on the Apple Watch.

Finally, the graphic designer imagines a new button that facilitates the transition from one screen to another, depending on the time of day or activities. Note that it is already possible to switch easily from one screen to another, simply by assigning a screen to each mode of concentration. You can then choose another screen through the iPhone’s Control Center.

The concept also evokes a revamped Dynamic Island. This version allows you to converse with the voice assistant Siri. This is relocated to the top of the screen. Currently, the window dedicated to Siri always appears at the bottom of the interface. The island also concentrates all the notifications received by the user. The design of this one would be modeled on the live activities, already well implemented in the Dynamic Island of the iPhone 14 Pro.

Except surprise, Apple should add the dynamic island to all its future iPhone 15. It is therefore not forbidden to dream of improvements to the functionality, which inspires many Android manufacturers.

A new Siri based on ChatGPT

Above all, the graphic designer dreams ofa whole new version of Siri which builds on the language model behind ChatGPT. This new hypothetical Siri would be accessible through a dedicated application, or via the new Dynamic Island.

Like ChatGPT, the new iPhone assistant would be able to generate complete answers. In the examples, Siri provides a news summary or sends and composes emails. The concept explains that Siri “keeps track of your conversations, generates text and creates summaries of information from the web”. A redesign of this type would completely revolutionize Siri and the way we interact with the iPhone.

The approach fantasized by Parker Ortolani is somewhat reminiscent of that of Microsoft. Rather than designing its own intelligent chatbot, the Redmond giant relied on advances in OpenAI to enrich Bing. The search engine now embeds an assistant intended to help Internet users looking for information on the web.

Mirroring Microsoft and Google, Apple should soon embark on artificial intelligence, prophesy analysts from Structure Research. According to them, the firm could notably launch its own search engine based on the language models behind ChatGPT. At this point, these are just guesses.

No big news, but big changes

Also note that this is only a concept developed by a graphic designer. There is no indication that Apple intends to add these new features to its operating system. According to information from Mark Gurman, iOS 17 should also be content withtentative improvements. Focused on its first mixed reality headset, whose presentation is expected in June 2023, Apple would limit the number of new features of the update.

So don’t expect a revolution in the interface. Nevertheless, iOS 17 would be paradoxically rich in changes. According to Mark Gurman, Apple would take advantage of the new version of its operating system to comply with the regulations on digital services and the regulations on the digital market. These two new European laws force Apple to authorize the installation of applications outside the App Store. This change in size would be implemented from iOS 17…
