The iPhone 15, which is expected in autumn, is said to support Wi-Fi 6E. This is the assessment of analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malley from Barcleys Investment Bank. Faster and more reliable wireless connections are possible with the use of the 6 gigahertz radio band, provided that a suitable router is also used.
The assumption that Apple is using Wi-Fi 6E for the first time in the upcoming iPhone is reasonable after the latest new releases. With the current models of the iPad Pro (11 and 12.9 inches), the US company started to switch to the faster standard. The 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models released in January and the new Mac mini also have the ability to use the 6 GHz band on board.
Fast speed only with same SSID
On a support page Apple points out that the use of Wi-Fi 6E requires the activation of the 2.4 or 5 GHz bands in addition to the appropriate router. In addition, all bands must have the same network name (SSID). Otherwise, users will receive a warning that there is only limited compatibility and that the names should be standardized.
Wi-Fi 6E support for the iPhone has been discussed for some time. In rumors, it was assumed for the first time with the iPhone 13 that Apple could introduce the technology. But even the current iPhone 14 continues to “transmit” with Wi-Fi 6. Even after the analysts’ information, it remains unclear whether Apple will initially only reserve Wi-Fi 6E for the Pro models iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max or whether that too iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus can already be equipped with it.
What else is known
So far, it has been speculated that all four models will have the new Dynamic Island screen cut-out and that Apple will use USB-C instead of the Lightning connector in the future.
