In addition, 70% of Peruvians consider that general elections should be held this 2023 given the current political situation, while 22% indicate that the elections should be scheduled for April 2024, and 7% for 2026, according to the study released this Sunday for ‘Fourth estate’.

On the other hand, disapproval of President Dina Boluarte’s management rose from 71% last January to 74% this month.

In addition, the president’s approval rating went from 20% last January to 18% in February. For 57% of Peruvians, if Boluarte leaves the Palace, the head of Congress, José Williams (Avanza País), should not assume the Presidency, but another congressman elected by the plenary.

25% indicate that Williams should assume the presidential mandate and 18% do not specify. 47% of Peruvians consider that the most important thing is the early elections; 21%, the electoral reforms and then the elections; 19%, the elections and the constituent assembly.

During a press conference that she gave last week, Dina Boluarte reiterated that she will not resign and that she would stay until 2026 if the elections are not brought forward. “We will continue to govern so that we are interested in solving the needs that, throughout these 30 years of the history of the 201 years of the Republic, have not been mets,” he said.

In addition, the president invited the Congress and the Constitution Commission to reflect to raise again the advancement of elections. “In this view of responsibility from the Executive we have proposed two bills for the advancement of elections, one for April 2024 and another for 2023. I call on Congress, in that role of the first power of the State, let us look responsibly at what the people and streets demand”, emphasized Boluarte Zegarra.
