Following the motion approved by the European Parliament last Wednesday, which includes the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on the list of terrorist groups, Iran has warned that it may withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in retaliation.

The decision made last Wednesday by the European Parliament was based on human rights violations committed during the protests over the death of Mahsa Amini, which began in September.

Following this motion, Hosein Amirabdolahian, the Iranian relations minister, first announced the move. “According to the declarations of the president of the European Council, the West does not want to designate the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization, but if Europe does not change its position, Iran will adopt reciprocal measures,” he commented, according to Télam.

Next, the minister was asked about the possibility of Iran withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty. “There are European politicians, like Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who have little diplomatic experience, so they don’t rely on reason and they don’t correct their position, so any option is possible,” he said. .

Likewise, the head of Iranian diplomacy revealed that “according to what I have been able to speak with the head of EU Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, and with the president of the European Council, they do not want to apply the resolution and have said that the decision has to do with the emotions of some members of the European Parliament”.
