Doha. The Iraqi Communications and Media Authority prohibited the media and social media companies that work in the country from using the expression ‘homosexual orientation’, recommending replacing it with the term ‘sexual deviation’, says the note published by the aforementioned authority.
“It was decided to prohibit the use of the expression ‘homosexual orientation’ due to the negative connotation it has in Iraqi society. The correct term ‘sexual deviation’ will be used,” said the note, quoted by the Arabic digital newspaper Al-Tawassul.
As explained by the Media and Communications Authority, the measure seeks to “defend society and its traditional values.”
