Washington DC.- The director of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Anne Milgram, assured that the Sinaloa Cartel is more powerful since “Los Chapitos”, the faction led by the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, took command.

“His sons took control and the cartel has never been more powerful, never made more money,” Milgram said in a Milken Institute talk. “We can’t go against a single point, we have to attack the whole chain.”

The head of the DEA assured that the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) are responsible for the fentanyl and methamphetamines that are consumed in the United States.

“What the indictment against ‘Los Chapitos’ shows is the fentanyl supply chain around the world,” he said.

“They (‘Los Chapitos’) took command and made the Cartel more deadly and ruthless, and they were the first to manufacture fentanyl and transport it in the distribution networks that we see today.”

Milgram assured that they are “mapping” the members of these two cartels around the world.

“We have identified them in more than 40 countries around the world and they operate differently in each country. We are attacking the entire supply chain. We have incredible international partners that can help us,” he said.

In mid-April, the United States Department of Justice announced measures against “Los Chapitos.”

The country requested the extradition of Ovidio Guzmán, head of the cartel, already arrested, and filed charges for money laundering and drug and arms trafficking against Iván Guzmán Salazar, Alfredo Guzmán Salazar and Joaquín Guzmán López, sons of Guzmán Loera; in addition to operators and hitmen.

In subsequent weeks, the DEA placed two of “El Chapo” Guzmán’s sons on its most-wanted list, Iván Archivaldo (ranked third on the list) and his brother, Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar. For each one they offer a reward of 10 million dollars.
