Landeswarnzentrale: Take precautions and keep an eye on the amount of precipitation.

According to the latest forecast by the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG), heavy rain with rainfall of 50 to 70 millimeters, and up to 90 millimeters in small areas, is expected from Friday morning to Saturday evening (December 23 to 24), especially in the extreme northern areas of the Bregenzerwald. Up to 50 millimeters of precipitation is expected in the upper Rhine Valley, in the Walgau and in the Klostertal, and up to 30 millimeters in the Montafon and in the Silvretta.

State warning center observes the situation

The snow line is between 2000 and 2300 meters until midnight today. After midnight it descends to 1500 meters. Towards the end of the precipitation on Saturday evening, it will rise again briefly to almost 2000 meters. The hydrographic service and the state warning center are continuously monitoring the situation. On Saturday evening and during the night, the precipitation will subside and the situation will ease. With the influence of high pressure, dry, very sunny and mild weather then sets in.

Bregenzerach: flooding to be expected

With today’s precipitation forecasts, the highest water level in the night to tomorrow Saturday morning on the Bregenzerach is below that of an annual flood. No floods are to be expected on the Rhine and the Ill.

Small-scale flooding in small bodies of water possible

Small floods with small-scale flooding are possible on small bodies of water. Local overloading of the sewage system and flooding of streets, cellars and underground car parks can also occur in individual cases. Observing the development of precipitation and water levels in the streams is recommended.
