According to a report, Google has put on hold the construction of a huge new company site in Silicon Valley in the US state of California due to cost reasons. As the broadcaster CNBC reported on Friday, the construction work for the Google Campus Downtown West in the city of San Jose should actually start at the end of the year.

However, the preparatory work has now been stopped. The company commissioned was not informed when the construction site would continue.

According to CNBC, office space, apartments and parks should be built on the 32-hectare campus, for which planning permission has already been granted.

The Google parent company Alphabet announced earlier this year that it would cut around 12,000 jobs worldwide.

In the last quarter of 2022, Alphabet had made less sales and profits than expected after Google posted declines, particularly in its important advertising revenue. The group is expected to publish new quarterly figures next week. (AFP)
