A small passenger plane experienced engine failure mid-flight over the Dolomites. The young 22-year-old pilot managed to land without too much difficulty.

A miraculous landing. A 22-year-old Italian girl on Wednesday managed to make an emergency landing of the small tourist plane in which she was with two passengers, at an altitude of more than 2000 meters in the Italian Alps, reports the Corriere del Veneto.

Engine failure in mid-flight

Silvia de Bon had taken off with her brother and his girlfriend from Trento, in the northeast of the country, and was flying towards Belluno, a little further east. But in full flight, the plane encounters an engine failure.

The young amateur pilot did not lose her cool, straightened the stick and managed to land around 4:25 p.m. on the slope of Val di Fiemme, in the municipality of Predazzo, at 2100 meters above sea level, in the Dolomites.

When they arrived, the three young people, all in their twenties, called the emergency number and managed to get out of the cabin. They then go to a nearby bivouac while waiting for air rescue.

The three miraculous are transported in emergency to the hospital of Santa Chiara. The young pilot was hit by shards of glass and abrasions to the head and face during the landing and must remain under observation for the night. His brother and his girlfriend were able to quickly return home.

“We all returned home unscathed,” rejoices Mattia, Silivia de Bon’s brother.

“A miracle”

The father of the young pilot says that his daughter, accustomed to this trip by plane which she was not doing for the first time, told him that the plane had encountered problems from the ignition in Trento.

“At altitude, she encountered other problems. She told me that the plane had descended in a nose-down attitude and that she got out of it by applying the rescue maneuvers,” adds her father.

The young woman also temporarily lost consciousness shortly after landing and “does not remember the moments before the explosion”, he explains. He concludes: “it is a miracle that she is alive. I really hope that she stops stealing”. Nothing is less certain, while the young woman is destined to become an airline pilot.
