The head of Italy’s public broadcaster RAI, Carlo Fuortes, resigned today. In his letter of resignation, he complained that the conditions for his remaining in office no longer existed.

“I acknowledge that the conditions for continuing my work as CEO no longer exist,” said Fuortes, who has been RAI boss since 2021. He lamented the loss of the political support needed for RAI leadership. That threatens to paralyze his scope for action, explained the 63-year-old manager.

According to media indiscretions, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wants to replace the RAI chief post with a confidant. Fuortes beckons a job as director of Naples’ San Carlo opera house. He had already directed the Roman opera house. The current director of the San Carlo Theater, Stephane Lissner, is only in office until June.
