And ten for Capcom. For the tenth consecutive year, the Osaka publisher, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this summer, has posted an increase in operating profit. This exceeds 50 billion yen (343 million euros) for the first time and this 18% increase goes hand in hand with that of turnover (+ 14%) and net profit (+ 13%) . Results superior to those anticipated by management.

Sales figures in shambles

Capcom distributed 41.7 million games between April 2022 and March 2023, up from 32.6 million a year earlier. Released in June 2022, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak totaled 5.45 million sales while Resident Evil 4 sold 3.75 million copies in a few days. Games released in previous fiscal years account for 29.3 million sales and include Monster Hunter World (which totals 18.8 million), Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (10.2 million), Monster Hunter Rise (12.7 million) , Resident Evil Village (7.9 million), Resident Evil 7 (12 million), Resident Evil 2 (12 million) or even Resident Evil 3 (7 million).

Box sales fell again during the fiscal year, but not sure that Capcom takes a dim view of it as the publisher is focused on its digital strategy. Physical sales thus represent 4.4 million games sold (for a turnover of 121 million euros) against 37.3 million games sold for download (522 million euros). Compared to most other Japanese publishers, remember that Capcom obtains these results without the help of mobile, which represents a derisory share in its accounts, while waiting to see if Niantic is able to get Monster Hunter Now off the ground. Let us add that Japan represents 8.2 million games sold.

So why stop on such a good path? For the new fiscal year, Capcom is aiming for an eleventh consecutive year of growth with an operating profit of 378 million euros and a net profit of 270 million euros. The objective is to sell 45 million games (including only 2.5 million in box sales). In addition to the releases of the Mega Man Battle Network compilation, which has already reached one million, Street Fighter 6 and the new Exoprimal license, Capcom is counting above all on the richness of its catalog to make ever more sales over the long term.
