He himself knows that his record so far is not convincing. Now Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel has sent a wake-up call to his team.
There can no longer be any talk of tailwind for the important Champions League game against Manchester City next Wednesday: FC Bayern did not get more than a 1-1 draw against TSG Hoffenheim. Hardly any coach of the German record champions had a worse start than Tuchel (read more about his record here). The Bayern coach said with regard to the quarter-final second leg of the premier class: “The task has definitely become even more difficult.”
This was followed by an angry wake-up call to his team: “We have no sense that there is a fire.” The Munich team are on the verge of losing one title after the other in a short space of time. On Wednesday (from 9 p.m. in the t-online live ticker) they have to catch up 0: 3 against Man City in the Allianz Arena in order to still move into the semi-finals of the premier class.
“Can’t be worse than today”
Tuchel spoke of the “worst game” under his leadership on Saturday. And in the five games there have already been two defeats, one of them in the painful cup defeat against SC Freiburg. The Munich players, including captain Thomas Müller, were also puzzled about the “sleepy” appearance, which put the team “into a kind of hibernation” in the middle of spring, as the attacker said in an ARD interview.
Manchester City, on the other hand, got in the mood for the trip to Munich in the Premier League with an easy 3-1 win over Leicester City and two goals from striker Erling Haaland. Meanwhile, Bayern’s defensive star Matthijs de Ligt said what made him positive after Bayern Munich’s negative performance against Hoffenheim for the necessary race to catch up on Wednesday: “It can’t be worse than today.”
