The Political Coordination Board of the Chamber of Deputies reproached the president of the Chamber, PAN member Santiago Creel, for not having protected the parliamentary compound, by allowing members of the Army War Band and Air Force in Honors to carry weapons to the Flag, held in the lobby of the plenary hall.

For its part, the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) reported that the presence of armed soldiers complied with the regulations and protocols not only of the agency, but also of the Chamber of Deputies itself, and that said protocol was agreed with the Board of Directors. , headed by Creel.

In a statement, the Political Coordination Board, headed by Morenista Ignacio Mier, but in which representatives of all political parties in San Lázaro participate, remarked that the protocol was decided unilaterally, although in the legislation there is no obligation of the President of the Chamber to seek the approval of that government body.

“The president (Santiago Creel) invited the Mexican Army to the installation ceremony of Congress and did not take care to guarantee the correct observance of the internal regulations of Congress. The escort of the Mexican Army entered the San Lázaro Legislative Campus armed,” states the statement.

Creel justified yesterday that the Sedena insisted that the members of the War Band carry their rifles, as part of their uniform, for which reason he decided that the ceremony should be held in the lobby and without loading cartridges. He also pointed out that he did not want to enter into a confrontation with the Armed Forces over the incident.

He maintained that the important thing is that the military not enter the plenary session armed, which is essentially the meeting place for legislators and where parliamentary decisions are made.
