Goodbye 2022 and hello 2023. In a few days we will celebrate the new year and with it the arrival of new changes in regulations. In addition to the traditional revaluations of certain pensions, the SMIC or the increase in certain gas or stamp prices, it is also the Low Emission Zones (ZFE) which will be modified by new measures.

Since 2015, Low Emission Zones have been popping up all over France. Their goal is simple, to limit atmospheric pollution due to automobile transport by prohibiting the circulation of the most polluting cars. Although they have taken a long time to set up, a law of August 2021 makes ZFEs compulsory, from 2025in all agglomerations of more than 150,000 inhabitants. Next Sunday, new measures will already amplify their roles by making them stricter.

These changes relate to each of the 11 EPZs currently present in the national territory. HAS Lyons for example, after 4 months of “educational period” motorists may be fined, from Sunday, €68 if they drive with an unclassified car or Crit’Air 5. The same policy will be put in place at Montpellier even if the verbalizations will only be done from the middle of next year.

And in Nice, Reims, Strasbourg, Grenoble, Paris or Marseille, how does it work?

At 1er January to Nice, motorists driving in unclassified cars or Crit’Air 5 will be in violation, whereas today this ban only concerns heavy goods vehicles or coaches. HAS Reims a PV of 68€ will be systematically awarded to motorists of Crit’Air 5 and 4. Same as Strasbourg even if the verbalization will initially only concern cars with the Crit’Air 5 sticker. GrenobleCrit’Air 5 car ban will wait until 1er July 2023. Same date for Crit’Air 3 cars running at Paris and in the Greater Paris. HAS Marseillesusers with a Crit’Air 4 sticker will be banned from driving in the Marseille capital from 1er next September.

Finally, also note that depending on your agglomeration you will undoubtedly be affected by new deployments of EPZs by the end of next year (see the government map concerning the future deployment of EPZs).
