After a few months of waiting, it has finally been revealed. The reason why Apple delayed the expected launch of the MacBook Pro with the promising chip M2Max and he is also interesting M2 Pro.

As he recalls a report published on the website of BGRAfter the M2 for the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, the M2 Pro and Max should follow, but then the leaks and rumors changed their tone, that they were launching for October.

Apple allegedly delayed the launch of these new laptops, moving the launch to early 2023, because Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC will only start manufacturing its next-generation 3nm (nanometer) chips this last week of 2022.

The M2 Pro and Max models, both System-on-Chip (SoC) and that the Cupertino company will include in the 2023 MacBook Pro, could be built on the next-generation process.

Apple bets on the 3 nm process

The report adds that TSMC plans to hold a ceremony at the South Taiwan Science Park (STSP) on December 29 to mark the start of commercial chip production using 3nm process technology, Apple’s bet on the future.

The leaks are not 100 percent clear that the company with the bitten apple includes the chip with 3nm, but considering the manufacturing time of TSMC and the fact that Apple is the main customerit makes perfect sense that he waited for the 3nm manufacturing pipeline to be ready, which would explain the delay in the release of the M2 Pro and M2 Max for MacBook Pro.

Furthermore, it is expected that the A17 Bionic of the iPhone 15 Pro is also a 3nm chip. The current A16 Bionic SoC is a 4nm chip from TSMC. This smartphone chip will be based on an improved 3nm process, just like the next-generation M3 processor.
