Things are going well now for Sony. Well, not in all aspects maybe but when it comes to console sales, nobody beats them. At a time when both the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series S/X were declining, Sony tripled its European numbers compared to the same period last year, according to a report from Games Industry. A large part of that success can most likely be attributed to the fact that there have actually been consoles to buy. After two years of empty shelves, access has now been extremely good.

In total, console sales increased by roughly 15%, compared to last year, and the lion’s share was the Playstation 5, with its 202 percent more units sold during the current period.

Games, on the other hand, looked more dismal, with a loss of almost 20% in January compared to 2022. Something that can be explained by the fact that there has been no new real newsstand title this year, like Pokémon Legends from last year. Instead, qualifiers tipped the blockbuster Dead Space Remake in first in sixth place.
