Tokyo. Japan said on Monday that it had mobilized fighter jets in recent days due to China’s air-naval maneuvers around the island of taiwan.

The three-day military exercises, which began on Saturday, are Beijing’s response to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen’s meeting in the United States on April 5 with US Speaker of the House of Representatives kevin mccarthy.

Taiwan said Monday it had detected 11 Chinese warships and 59 Chinese planes around the island.

Various fighter planes and Warshipsincluding the aircraft carrier “Shandong”, simulated attacks against the island, including live-fire exercises.

The Japanese General Staff said in a statement on Monday that it had observed the presence of the “Shandong” and other Chinese warships in an area between 230 and 430 km south of the Japanese island of Miyako since Friday.

According to the Japanese General Staff, “about 120 takeoffs and landings” were confirmed on the “Shandong” aircraft carrier, including 80 combat planes and 40 helicopters.

In addition, two escort groups of Japanese forces were mobilized for a surveillance mission and “air self-defense force fighter jets were deployed” in response to intense Chinese fighter activity, the General Staff said.
