Despite the weakness in the latest poll for the House of Representatives elections this Sunday in Berlin, the top candidate of the Greens, Bettina Jarasch, continues to be combative. “We continue to fight, because there are more uncertainties than ever before in this election, more ties than ever before and I think mobilization will decide,” she said on Friday morning on ZDF’s “Morgenmagazin”.

The Sunday question of the ZDF “Politbarometer”, which was published on Thursday evening, sees the Greens with 17 percent only in third place behind the CDU (25 percent) and SPD (21 percent). The result of a survey by the opinion research institute Civey for Tagesspiegel and “Spiegel” was similar. She sees the CDU in first place with 24 percent, followed by the SPD with 22 percent and the Greens with 17 percent of the vote.

Jarasch confirmed her plans, particularly with regard to traffic: by 2030 only electric cars in the city center or halving the number of parking spaces within the next ten years. “I’m someone who honestly says that changes are needed,” said Jarasch. “We all like to talk about climate protection and also about the traffic turnaround, which was decided and started long ago in Berlin. I say it needs some changes, but Berlin can become a better and more livable city than it is today.”

The lead candidate reiterated her demands for a speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour in the city, with exceptions on the main roads. “It’s not a revolution, it’s actually a small measure, but it’s good for everyone.”

In the discussion about the socialization of large real estate groups, Jarasch called for the referendum to be taken seriously with a clear majority in favor of this project. “As the governing body, I can’t just push it away.” Nevertheless, a solution is needed that will stand up to the constitutional court. “Adequate compensation is also part of legal certainty, otherwise it won’t work at all.” (tsp, dpa)
